Playing the qin in the rarden, handscroll, ink and colors on silk. On the frontispiece calligraphy in cursive script: “Playing the Lute. Respectfully inscribed by You Ziping.” One seal: “You Ziping yin”. On the painting a poetic inscription and signature by the artist: „In the fifth year of the Guangxu period (1879), in the ninth month of autumn in the jimao year, I have imitated here the style of Tang Liuru (Tang Yin, 1470-1523) and added a poetic inscription. … Rongqing, your younger brother Jiang Shouping.“ Two seals of the artist: “Jiang Shouping” etc.

Banana plants, rocks, bamboo and Wutong trees surround the scene. The figures and landscape elements evoke the style of the famous Ming painter Tang Yin as the inscription tells us
